Links
Links are the heart of LinkAce. You can add anything with a URL — interesting articles, cool portfolios, helpful web tools. Each link can be categorized using tags or grouped with lists. Links are automatically archived by the Wayback Machine and checked regularly to ensure you know about changes in availability.
Link Overview
The link overview lists all available links with meta information like tags, sharing options, and links for editing and deleting. You can sort the list by creation date, title, and URL, both ascending and descending.
Link display formats
Links can be displayed in three different formats, controlled directly from the overview page:
- Simple list — Compact view showing just the essentials
- Detailed list — Shows title, description, tags, and metadata
- Cards — Visual card layout with thumbnails (if available)
Bulk editing
Links can be bulk-edited. Select the links you want to edit by checking the small box for each link, or select all currently displayed links by clicking “Select all” at the top.
After all links are selected, click “Edit” at the top to start bulk editing. On the bulk edit form, you can change the assigned tags, lists, visibility, or delete all selected links. Values that aren’t changed will stay the same.
Adding new Links
New links can be added in two ways:
- Quick Add — Directly from the dashboard using the “Quick Add” form
- Full form — Via the “Add Link” link in the menu bar (recommended for more control)
The primary form shows several fields:
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| URL | Yes | The URL of the link you want to add |
| Title | No | Custom title for the link. If left blank, LinkAce will parse the title from the website. If no title is found, the URL is used as the title. |
| Description | No | Custom description for the link. If left blank, LinkAce will parse the description from the website. |
| List | No | Add the link to lists. Start typing to search for existing lists, or create new ones by entering them here. Lists can contain almost any character except commas. |
| Tags | No | Add tags for the link. Start typing to search for existing tags, or create new ones by entering them here. Tags can contain almost any character except commas. |
| Visibility | No | Set the privacy mode of the link (Public, Internal, or Private) |
If you’d like to add several links in a row, check the “Continue Adding” box. You won’t be redirected to the link detail page, but will see the link form again.
Suggestions for Tags
After adding the URL in the form, LinkAce will gather details from the specified site. If a valid site is found and it contains meta information, LinkAce will suggest them to be added as tags. Click on a suggestion to add it as a new tag.
Link Details
The link detail page shows all available information about the link, including title, description, lists, and tags. From the details page you can directly edit the link or delete it. If a thumbnail was saved for a link, it will be displayed.
The “Enable Check” / “Disable Check” button lets you enable or disable the automated checks performed by LinkAce. This is helpful if a website is reachable but LinkAce has problems accessing it (often the case with visitor captcha checks on Cloudflare-hosted websites).
You’ll also see all share links if you enabled some in the user settings.
Link Notes
Each link can have several notes. These can be used to add more detailed information about the link or leave hints for guest viewers. Notes can be private or public — private notes can only be read by you.
To add a new note, view existing ones, or edit a note, go to the link detail page. The notes section is displayed below the regular link details.
Change History
The change history at the bottom of the link details shows your recent changes with timestamps and previous values. Changes are recorded for all link values and assigned lists and tags.
Automatic Backups with the Wayback Machine
After you add a link to LinkAce, it will schedule an automatic “backup” with the help of the Wayback Machine (archive.org) . This backup helps you access the contents of your saved link if it goes offline. LinkAce notifies the Wayback Machine about the link you saved, so archiving can be scheduled. It may take a while until the first backup is finished.
Some websites restrict access of the Wayback Machine. If that’s the case, the website won’t be archived. Contact the site owner to get access for the Wayback Machine.
The cron needs to be configured and working to enable automated backups.
Notifications about dead or moved Links
If you set up the cron correctly, LinkAce will regularly check all links to see if they’re still available. More details can be found on the Link Checks page.
Opening multiple links in new browser tabs
Lists and Tags have an option to open all links in new browser tabs. This feature requires you to configure your browser to allow popups for LinkAce. Consult your browser’s documentation on how to do this.
